On March 2013 British Pipeline Agency Limited (BPA) began one of its biggest projects in 30 years – Buncefield Aviation Storage Terminal Rebuild Project, after its destruction in the 2005 fire.
The project involved the detailed design and construction of 8 tanks totalling some 65,000m3 of fuel storage and all associated pumping terminal and control facilities, to re-instate Buncefield Terminal to its strategic role of supplying aviation fuel to Heathrow and Gatwick airports.
There was a significant quantity of heavily reinforced concrete bases with secondary and tertiary walls to 2 areas, which had concrete slabs and roadways within and in conjunction with various other structures such as culverts, slipways and roadways
